Walter H. A. Vandaele
Managing Director
Walter Vandaele is an expert in competition and regulatory policy analysis, econometrics and analysis of decisions made under uncertainty. He has analyzed antitrust issues in such industries as oil drilling and oil services; supermarkets; pulp, paper and container board; sugar and corn wet milling; pharmaceuticals; and electrical distribution equipment. In addition to analyzing international trade matters in a variety of industries - including steel, uranium and telephone systems - before the Department of Commerce and the International Trade Commission, Dr. Vandaele has consulted extensively and testified in engagements involving the biotechnology and pharmaceutical industries. He has also analyzed trademark and patent issues in a number of industries.
Before joining PHB, Dr. Vandaele was assistant director for regulatory evaluation at the Bureau of Consumer Protection and economic advisor at the Bureau of Competition, Federal Trade Commission. He has taught at the Harvard Business School and in the economics departments of Harvard University and the University of Chicago. He has been widely published.
Dr. Vandaele received a Licentiaat (M.B.A.) from the University Faculties St. Ignatius, Antwerpen, Belgium; a Doctorandus in economics from the Katholieke Universiteit Brabant, the Netherlands; and an M.B.A. and a Ph.D. from the University of Chicago.
