Ira H. Shavel
Principal
Ira Shavel has nearly two decades of experience in energy industry analysis and computer modeling. He has particular expertise in the operation of the U.S. electric power system, electric utility economics, bulk power markets and electric utility emissions compliance strategies. His clients have included electric utilities, natural gas pipeline companies, trade associations, industry research groups and federal agencies. Dr. Shavel's international consulting experience includes assignments in Russia, Poland and Spain. He has authored ten refereed papers and chapters.
Before joining PHB, Dr. Shavel was a senior vice president at Applied Automated Engineering. From 1979 until 1995, Dr. Shavel worked for ICF-Kaiser Consulting Group, most recently as a vice president. In addition, Dr. Shavel served as an assistant professor at the University of Nebraska at Lincoln and as an assistant engineer at Sperry Systems Management.
Dr. Shavel received his B.S. in mathematics from the City College of New York, his Ph.D. in mathematics from the State University of New York at Stony Brook and an S.M. in operations research from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
